No Connectivity and Electronic Media Before Sleep

I have this bad habit of getting hooked to my laptop, smartphone, and tablet before bedtime. When I'm not working on my laptop, I would check some emails and browse the Internet. I would then play some games on my smartphone. By 11 p.m. or later, I would switch off the light but would still be on my tablet, watching recent or recommended videos on YouTube, and ended with an ASMR video to help me sleep.

You see, I've always had trouble sleeping early or at all. I'm aware that all these electronic gadgets are the ones keeping me up at night but I just couldn't get rid of them. A study led by Dr. Nakamori Suganuma of Osaka University, Japan, shows that people who surf the Internet or watch TV before bedtime report that they are not getting enough sleep although they're sleeping the same amount of hours as anyone else. Basically, what the research meant to say is that by staying connected to the Internet before we go to bed, it affects the quality of our sleep.

I have no idea what got into me when we were heading home from our grocery shopping just now but I just decided to make a pact that there will be no Wifi or 3G after 11 p.m. If I couldn't sleep still, I would just read a book or stare into the ceiling until I do. I asked my partner to hold me accountable for this for at least a week. I do think it should be longer as habits don't change in a week but we'll see how this no connectivity pact goes.
